This year has been a wild ride, to say the least. While it might seem like there isn’t much to be thankful for in 2020, especially if your small business was hit hard during the pandemic, it’s actually the ideal time to show your customers how much they mean to you. Here are a few Thanksgiving marketing ideas to show thanks to your customers.

Personal outreach to your customers

Chances are that your customers have been having a hard time this year as well. Why not take a moment to write them a personal note to show them that you’re thankful for their business? Depending on your product or service, telling your customers that you appreciate their ongoing patronage will go a long way in strengthening your business relationship. It will also give you the opportunity to reflect on something you ARE thankful for: loyal customers!

Customize your marketing message for the holiday

If you’re marketing through social media, email marketing, or even content marketing, take a moment and customize your marketing message for the Thanksgiving holiday. It’ll catch people’s eye and stand out from the usual marketing messages you’re putting out there. Look at your color scheme, your messaging, and your use of images, and take advantage of this time of year. Whether you use humor (“even though 2020 is a complete turkey, we’re thankful for your business!”) or a more sincere message, give a little Thanksgiving twist to your messaging. On social media, throw in a few Thanksgiving-related hashtags to help get more eyes on it, such as #Thanksgiving, #TDay, #Tday2020, or #Thanksgiving2020.

Take a step back from the hard sell

It’s no secret that people are pretty exhausted from this year. Now is a good time to simply stay in front of your customers, show your appreciation, and let them know you’re there if they need you. That doesn’t mean stop marketing or stop selling, but stay in front of your customers with marketing messaging that’s more attuned to the season and this year in general. We’re all in this together, so a message of “how can we help?” will resonates much more than “what else are you going to buy from us?”

Take time to reflect on how you can continue to serve your customers

As small business owners, we all wear a lot of hats and can get so busy in the weeds of daily business that we sometimes don’t stop to look at what we’re doing and how we can improve. This includes how we serve our customers. Take a moment and think about how your ongoing marketing efforts can continue to provide your customers with a better customer experience. Are you consistently providing helpful information that your clients can use to improve their business? Are you asking for their feedback on how you can improve your service? Is your website just as useful to your customers as it is to prospects? With the holidays approaching, we all have a bit of a breather, so take time to reflect on how you can continue serving your customers through your marketing efforts.
