Every small business should have a presence on Facebook. While there may be a lot of confusion over the recent changes with Facebook, it’s still a very viable marketing avenue and a great way to engage with prospects, customers, vendors and even the media. Here are a few tips to setting up your company Facebook page.

First, a few do’s and don’ts for setting up a Facebook page

HubSpot came up with a great infographic suggesting a few do’s and don’ts when it comes to your Facebook page. Be sure to take a moment to look at it; it’s outstanding!

Set up is easy if you follow a few simple steps.

step by stepMany companies are unsure on how to properly set up a Facebook page for their company.   Done correctly, your small business can engage with prospective clients, build a community of brand followers, provide a direct line of communication with your target audience, and help your brand establish a more personal connection. Why wouldn’t any small business want to do that? But to do it correctly, you need to follow a few steps. Here’s a quick overview of what you need to have on hand or be ready to answer to get started:

  1. What kind of company are you?
  2. What category does your small business fall within?
  3. Pick a profile picture
  4. Pick a cover image
  5. Prepare a short description about your company
  6. Have all other pertinent company info ready, such as your URL, phone number, hours of operation, etc.
  7. Decide on a call to action
  8. Find people to invite to your new page
  9. Decide who is going to manage your page

The key to an effective company page on Facebook is to not only complete every section, but to add content in a descriptive, compelling, engaging fashion. Look at your content through the eyes of your page visitors. Will they understand who you are?  Will they care?  Will they be inspired to take some kind of action (like, share, visit your website)?  Remember, Facebook is another avenue for marketing your business, so be sure to put your best foot forward!
